8 Furniture Trends That Will Be Hot in 2025

The last few years have seen an emphasis on warm, cozy, and personalized spaces, and design experts predict furniture trends will continue this visual aesthetic in the coming year. “Furniture trends will highlight a blend of retro influence, sustainable materials, and bold, rich colors. When thoughtfully combined, these trends will result in a rich, layered design aesthetic where comfort meets artistry,” says interior designer Cheryl Clendenon.

To learn more about the trends we can expect to see in the coming year, we talked to interior designers who share their top predictions. “2025 is all about creating spaces that feel personalized, yet timeless,” Clendenon says.

If you’re ready to embrace the “out with the old, in with the new” motto, here are 2025’s top furniture trends.

Pieces that Blend Modern Comfort with Timeless Style

“In 2025, we’ll be seeing nods to traditional styles, with a sense of nostalgia for the good old days,” says designer Rebecca Ward. Despite the ever-changing decor trends, there has recently been a shift towards investing in timeless pieces of furniture that can outlast fleeting trends. “Expect ‘new heirloom’ pieces—furniture that combines timeless craftsmanship with modern functionality,” says designer Sarah Hargrave.

In the last few years, the concept of the home has gone through a huge transition, with our living spaces suddenly becoming both our safe havens as well as our work spaces. Furniture plays a key role in serving both functions, and Ward predicts 2025 will continue blending the modern with the classic. “Expect furniture that feels warm and familiar, blending vintage appeal with modern functionality,” she says.

Furniture with Curves and Soft Edges

Retro styles will continue making a comeback in 2025, especially furniture with curved edges. “The retro-inspired love for curves and soft edges is expanding, with rounded sofas, bubble-shaped chairs, and soft-cornered tables dominating,” Clendenon says. She explains that curves and soft edges create a welcoming and fluid look that contrasts more structured decor well. There is a calming quality to the softness of curved lines, so this trend will lend itself perfectly to creating warm and inviting spaces that soothe and refresh.

Sustainability

Sustainability has been a hot topic in most industries in recent years, and the interior design world is no exception. Looking into 2025, “Sustainability will remain top of mind as we look for materials sourced from renewable resources, vintage, and antiques,” Ward says. To furnish your home in a more sustainable way, look for eco-friendly brands which source materials ethically and responsibly, and craft pieces without using harmful chemicals. Additionally, shop secondhand and bring in salvaged, antique, and vintage pieces that not only support sustainability, but infuse a space with unique character.

Emphasis on Artisanal Craftsmanship

“We also expect to see more hand-carved wood, woven details, and unique, hand-finished surfaces that create a one-of-a-kind feel, nodding to artisan traditions,” Clendenon says. Hand-carved details and solid woods bring in both a natural element, a textural detail, and an artisanal quality that instantly takes a space from generic to unique. When it comes to the types of woods that will be popular in 2025, “Look for contrasting wood stains—think a dark maple credenza paired with lighter walnut molding details,” Hargrave says.

Rich Textures and Mixed Patterns

Mixed prints, playful patterns, and rich textures are set to take over furniture design in 2025. “We’ll see tapestry textures with modern prints, color-drenched animal and floral fabrics, and more playful pattern combinations,” Ward says. Speaking of rich furniture accents, Clendenon says touches of Art Deco will be popular in the coming year, specifically in the form of metallics, geometric patterns, and rich velvets. “This style adds a glam touch, perfect for accent chairs or bar carts, and lends a vintage yet polished look,” Clendenon says.

Scalloped Details

Another retro trend expected to be big is scalloped details. “Scalloped details from the 1950s are back, showing up in headboards, dining tables, and even kitchen islands,” Hargrave says. There’s a playful element to scalloped details that injects a room with ease and a sense of whimsy. It’s versatile enough to incorporate into any room, whether through a sweet nightstand in a kid’s bedroom, or a chic upholstered headboard in the guest room.

’70s-Inspired Furniture

As for decade-inspired furniture trends, it looks like you can expect the ’70s to be a big influence. “The ’70s will have a resurgence through low-slung sofas, chunky shapes, and earthy tones paired with bold patterns,” Clendenon says. She predicts that furniture will carry a ’70s influence in the form of layered textures, mix-and-match materials such as leather and rattan, and shag upholstery.

Wingback Chairs

An iconic piece that designers are expecting to see become popular again is the wingback chair. “The wingback chair is set to make a big return as a preferred accent chair in both living rooms and home offices, providing a cozy and secure feel,” Ward says. The wingback chair dates all the way back to the 1600’s, and even though it has gone through some stylistic changes, its essence has remained the same: It’s a cozy yet stately looking chair with a high back and wing-like sides, and the perfect piece for an empty corner or elegant home office.
