NEW LONDON, N.C. — Judges for this year’s ASFD 15th annual Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards have selected 48 finalists in 16 categories, recognizing excellence in home furnishings design.
Winners will be honored at an awards banquet in High Point Oct. 18 during the fall High Point Market.
“We were thrilled and gratified by the quantity and quality of entries for this year’s competition,” said Dudley Moore, chairman of American Society of Furniture Designers Pinnacle Committee. “In particular, the entries in this year’s inaugural Green Leaf category were impressive and can only be described as ‘really cool.’ I want to thank this year’s judges for an outstanding job, as well as ASFD President Steve Hodges and Executive Director Christine Evans, who presided over the judging.”
Nominated in the major collections category were Forecast, by Berry & Clark Design Associates for the Pennsylvania House brand; Sanctuary, by Tracey Gibson for Hooker Furniture; and Tribeca, by Chris Bergelin and Thad Bergelin for Century Furniture.
In the new Green Leaf Award category, recognizing excellence in sustainable design, nominees are the Bird’s Nest Cocktail by John T. Kolkka for Kolkka Furniture; the Bjorn Chair by Joe Greene for C.R. Laine Furniture; and Ondrian Lamps by David Kitts, David Martin and George Chandler for Hubbardton Forge.

Occasional tables: Bird’s Nest by John T. Kolkka for Kolkka Furniture; Colors by Berry & Clark Design Associates for Hammary; and Modern Craftsman by Richard Schroeder, Denis Kissane and Gary Hokanson for Stanley Furniture.
Occasional storage: Driftwood Bombe Chest by Glenn Yelvington for Maitland-Smith; Lexicon Chest on Stand by Shaun Melvin for Baker Furniture; and Mybar by F. Doruk Yorgancioglu and Megan Perry for Dorya.
Juvenile furniture: Lily by Matthew Hurley for Hooker Furniture; Spectrum Collection by Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz for The Phillips Collection; and Young Classics by Jena Hall, Stephanie Lena and Brent Camfferman for Aspenhome.
Casual dining: Bungalow Baby by Jena Hall, Stephanie Lena and Brent Camfferman for Aspenhome; Havana by Phyllis Bridgeman for Hekman Furniture; and Mango Bay by Tim L. Annas for Kincaid Furniture.
Formal dining: European Legacy by Chris Bergelin for Hekman Furniture; Ferron Court by Les Killian, Jesse Schopmeyer and Gary Huffstetler for Broyhill; and Wellington Court by Chris Bergelin and Thad Bergelin for Century Furniture.
Motion upholstery: Paramount by Albert Choy for Moroni; Theo by Jack Lewis and Gary VanderWood for Palliser Furniture; and Welcome Sofa by Normand Couture for Couture International.
Stationary upholstery: Fairmont Lounge Chair by David Francis for David Francis Furniture; Meyer by Amy Archer for American Leather; and Perou Chaise by Rene Cazares and Richard Cazares for rcfurniture.
Leather upholstery: Addison by Rick Lee for American Leather; Ensemble Bed by Normand Couture for Couture International; and Lugano by Michael A. Galardo and Michael Felix Galardo for Elite Leather.

Furniture/Today serves as the major underwriter of the 2010 Pinnacle Awards. Ray Allegrezza, the publication’s editor in chief, will emcee the Pinnacle Awards banquet Oct. 18 in the International Home Furnishings Center ballroom.
