As stated by CNN
Design is both art and science: form must coexist with function. With the advent of artificial intelligence, the fields of fashion, architecture, and interiors have found themselves at a crossroads, where technology is changing not only the creation process but the very results.
The first example from our story about the innovative designer: in 2019 his “AI chair” became one of the first mass-produced furniture pieces to use AI, launched in partnership with Kartell during Milan Design Week. Generative design was just getting started then, but the path began as early as 2017, when the designer began experimenting with AI and collaborated with Autodesk.
Artificial intelligence, by definition, is artificial. It does not exist; it is speed.
AI in Design: Furniture, Fashion, and Architecture at a New Level
Another example – from fashion: a designer with over half a century of experience developed the brand’s archive with the help of AI, completed a course at MIT, and now uses AI platforms to classify archival pieces by silhouettes and design elements, offering new ideas while preserving the label’s unique style. For example, after a public image of Jessica Biel appeared, AI suggested options for repurposing the dress and changing the pattern.
Here’s the difference with AI. I was emotionally attached to that photograph of Jessica – I don’t think the dress looked better on anyone.
Architecture: Mood Boards, Renders, and New Solutions
In architecture, AI is used for mood boards, renders, and testing different configuration options. At Tim Fu Studio we developed tools for architectural and spatial optimization: algorithms test different variants, and the team selects the best solutions, making the most of light and space. Recently, a resort on Lake Bled in Slovenia was announced – the first fully AI-managed project; a diffusion model analyzes regional architecture to tailor solutions to the local heritage and style.
Architecture is the result we create and the experience we build, not just the renders we produce.
Most importantly: artificial intelligence is a powerful tool that expands human creative potential, but does not replace it. Responsible and thoughtful use of AI allows designers to think bigger, while preserving individuality and intuition.
