12 Chinese Furniture Designers That Will Force You To Rethink What You Know About China’s Contemporary Design Scene

IIIN, the conceptual furniture label from Shanghai-based Tells Studio, is dedicated to investigating the perceptual relationship between furniture and space. Guided by the notion of “presence” – of objects, people, and consciousness – IIIN’s work focuses on original design that captures spatial experience through material and structural clarity.

At Design Shanghai 2025, the studio debuted the Wahé Collection, inspired by the interlocking logic of traditional Chinese roof tiles. Key pieces include a modular cabinet composed of two tile-like units connected by stainless steel, a bench that adapts structural components into seating, and a lounge chair featuring fluid, curved forms designed for flat-pack shipping. Balancing rational construction with quiet expressiveness, the collection reflects IIIN’s ongoing investigation into how singular shapes can evolve across functions, forming a dialogue between object, space, and context. @tells_studio
