This Top 100 Retailer says the time was right for an in-house design studio

Furniture Mart USA officials recently opened the Billie Arthur Design Studio.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.– Furniture Mart USA, a Top 100 retailer with more than 50 locations in six states, has opened its first Billie Arthur Design Studio inside one Sioux Falls store.

Described by company officials as a “curated design destination,” the Billie Arthur Design Studio offers Furniture Mart USA customers access to premium vendor and customizable pieces, professional guidance from in-house design consultants, Selection Suites for personalized, one-on-one experiences, complimentary beverages, “gourmet bites, and mood-setting ambiance, and concierge-level service from consultation to delivery,” according to company representatives.

Billie Arthur Design Studio is named after Furniture Mart’s founder, Bill Hinks, and is intended to be a destination where “luxury home furnishings and refined service could live under one roof.” And while CEO Cory Price acknowledges that the new services are an expansion of what Furniture Mart USA has done for the  past 47 years, he added that the design studio is a part of the growth strategy.

“I think anytime you give a customer an elevated experience and custom options you can grow your business for those customers wanting more detailed level of help with designing their home,” Price said. “Also, this level of service will help us think differently in our other furniture brands and the services we offer. Anytime we can add more value to our customer, we know it helps our organization grow.”

Richard Kelly, Design Studio manager, said that the studio will be a resource for designers and their clients as well as retail customers. Along with product selection in the studio, customers can work with an in-house designer who is available to visit their homes to assist with a design strategy.

“We focus on building real relationships with our clients so we can better understand and meet their design and furniture needs. The studio has been thoughtfully curated to feel like home — each vignette is designed to spark inspiration and help you envision the possibilities in your own space. Our showroom is intentionally spacious, giving you room to explore without feeling overwhelmed. You’ll find a refined selection of high-quality, beautifully curated furniture, and a team that knows design inside and out,” Kelly said.

Both new and existing vendors are part of the Billie Arthur Design Studio furniture offerings. Price said that new manufacturers were added to the roster that the company doesn’t carry elsewhere and that current partners are being used in a new way.

In-house design staff can assist customers with product selection in the studio and on site at the customer’s home.

“We have great partners and want to make sure we have manufacturers that want to grow with us as well as those who have supported us in years past,” said Price. “We truly do have great partnerships and also welcome our new ones.”

Although there is a possibility of expansion in the future, Price said that for now, all focus is on the debut.

“We would love to see Billie Arthur grow,” he said. “At this time, we want to give our first location the attention and support it needs to flourish and what it needs to be successful.”
